Soccer / football; call it what you wish, it's the fastest growing participation sport in Australia. Over 15,000 people play football on Sydney's Northern Beaches alone, where teams such as Brookvale FC, Pittwater and Manly Vale compete for championship honours or promotion to the top division. Add this to the Eastern Suburbs, North Shore and Western Districts and Sydney has a thriving amateur soccer community. Dunbar Rovers (Eastern Suburbs) were state champions of champions last year beating Brookvale (Brookie, from The Northern Beaches) in the finals. It's a local league set up, which still results in team rivalry's spanning the city.
